[NTLK] Newton OS 1.4?

Greetings all,
     I was scanning through the MARC for Easter Eggs and ran across some threads mentioning a Newton OS 1.4, and that it might have been only for the Japanese market.
     Is there any more information about this? Was it ever released in the USA?
