Maybe having some idea of my hardware might help.

I use a separate Serial Port adapter and don't use a USB-to-Serial Adapter.
Although this takes up an opening on the back of the pc box I've found it to be
reliable. The adapter just takes a serial feed directly off the mother board.

I also seem to have a vague recollection that NCU once through up this error
message too, but hat was some 5 years ago so I can't recall what the fix was.

I went to the site and tried it. I could not find most of the files
such as CDIL and HANDLE.dll. QF exchange thinks the comm port is in
use. No other comm app does this. Hmmmmm.
