What about using a service like cafe press? (I think they're still around) That way shirts are printed as needed and a variety of other items that the designers choose could also be offered too.

I, for two, would also be interested in a black t-shirt, if only to avoid doing laundry. :)

Seriously, I tend to shy away from white t-shirts, as black simply looks neater. However, from what I can tell, white t-shirts are generally the norm simply because they're cheaper and easier to work with. I guess that's a choice the shirt designer(s) will have to make.

If you can post a mock-up shirt online, and I like the design, I would be happy to pay for mine in advance to help prevent the shirtmaker(s) from being lumbered with a metric diaperload of unsold shirts.
