Well, actually it is only a little over a 135 years old. It was created
to SLOW DOWN typists because they kept getting the keys jammed.

The most common alternative to QWERTY is DVORAK SIMPLIFIED

My first computer, an Apple IIc, had a switch above the keyboard that
allowed you to toggle between the two layouts. Of course this
capability has been built into the Mac OS since at least System 7, IIRC.
