So I received my serial cable in the mail today, and to my dismay, it
does not have a Prolific or an FTDI chipset, but a CH341 chipset. I have
downloaded the driver for it in OS X, and I had to modify the driver to
match the product and vendor ID of the device I received. After I did
this, the driver picked up my device, and showed an available serial
device in NCX. However, whenever I try to do any communication from my
Newton to NCX, it fails. I also tried 'cat'ing the raw serial device
(/dev/tty.PL2303-00002006) and attempting a dock from my Newton to see
if any traffic was being seen at all, and I saw no output. Has anyone
done anything with the Newton and this type of serial->usb cable? I
really hope I can get it working...
