several somewhat random thoughts

I once rebuilt an eMate battery pack and did not properly solder one
connection, so I believe it was the equivalent of a resister. this
battery pack did not seem to hold a charge very well. Once soldered
properly it functioned much better.
So..
I recommend checking and cleaning all contacts in the battery sled and
inside the silo. I have also seen Newtons with serious corrosion on
the Neg contact where perhaps a battery had leaked in the past.

This may also be an instance of the problem Frank recently had with an
eMate, as far as I know it remains unsolvede.
