I can suggest a entourage pocket edge. Mine has replaced my daily use
newton. Check ebay. Nearly all the features of a newt minus handwriting
recognition.

Is it ok to purchase an Android?   I have a Archos Internet Tablet 32
which has been just awesome, and I was thinking of getting a more full
sized tablet.

But if you say I don't have to, I guess I will continue using a Newton.
