[NTLK] Newton 2000 Serial Connection NCX/Keyspan to Apple iMac G4

It must be me but I just can't find the NCX preference settings. I tried everything else you suggested and no go. Where in the world are these settings :-). Maybe we are running different versions of NCX? There are no drop downs on my screen. All of the icons are grayed out because the connnect has not been established. I'm sure if you were here (or Simon Bell) you/he would see the problem immediately :-). I know, its just one small detail that is preventing me from getting this working. I'm so close and yet so far :-). When I get this working I will buy everybody a beer!

P.S. Keyspan Serial Assistant shows the following:

KeySerial1
USA19H1b12P1.1

When I click on the Serial Ports arrow on the top menu bar I can change the ordering of these but neither order causes this to work.

(Gary--my reply is also going to the List so that others might be included, and perhaps assist or benefit from our discussion.)

In NCX's Preferences drop down, the serial connections that the program "sees" are listed. You would of course choose the Keyspan adapter (USA28X191, for example).

There are several speeds listed when you choose the Dock on the Newton, and then tap "Connect via"...some are here by default, others are added as you add packages or hardware. On my MP2100, these are:
Serial
Modem
Ethernet
IrDA
  Serial--2400
Serial--4800
Serial--9600
Serial 115200
TCP/IP

You should be able to connect either by Serial alone, or Serial 115200, either of which worked for me. Eventually you should probably consider downloading the 115200 package, either on the Newton, or on the Mac--once you're able to connect the two successfully.

I do have the 17" flat panel like you but I think the CPU is faster (I'll check). I am choosing the basic serial connection on the Newton, not one of the drop downs. I read that there is a NCX users manual somewhere but I have not been able to locate it.  This has to be something really simple :-).
