[NTLK] Of Simple Mail for a Simple Fellow

Hi all,
     I'm currently hammering out issues one at a time here - I finally got
the WallStreet II working properly and have a reliable email client on it in
Entourage 2001.
     Here's where I'm at getting Simple Mail working.
     I have the minimum packages installed on my 2000U and am able to take
screen shots using Screen Shooter. I am able to download mail using Simple
Mail and am able to read it, but whenever I download mail, it wants to
re-download every message in my inbox.  Whenever I try to send mail, I get
the error message "500 Server Error".
     Any ideas?  I can neither send plain text nor .GIF using Simple Mail.
