So you have had success with complete reassembly, including the
"lid" portion that causes me such trouble?
I have not tried using cells with solder tabs...while Frank
maintains it's the only way to go, I've always just used
regular AA NiMh cells. Recently I have had to recell the battery packs in the two Data General One laptops that I have, and I used sub-C ni-cads with solder tabs for those--and they came out great.
The next time I did a Newton recell I would certainly consider ceIls with solder tabs
