there is a little program for the Mac that does this: CopyPaste Pro. It's a clipboard manager and generally quite a nice utility (though it worked better under OS9 than it ever has under OS X).
It can extract email addresses, but I don't know whether it just copies them (likely) or cuts them. But in any case you could just run a find-replace command on the text files replacing the @ sign with something meaningless and machine-unreadable.
Hope that helps, Ebi

Hi all,
thanks for providing me with more digests. Only three missing ones left...
Some answers to your questions:

I have digests up to 211. 211 is dated May 14, 2001. But I'm missing 208.

I'm aware of this. I think back then I did not archive the NTLK2 messages
since the traffic was negligible.
I'm interested in the archives, though.

Yes, I do.
Some other issues...
I'm afraid I overlooked a missing digest. I also need
newtontalk Digest V1 #375 (November 2001)
Apart from that I'm still looking for
NewtonTalk Digest, Vol 24, Issue 10 (September 2011)
NewtonTalk Digest, Vol 24, Issue 11 (September 2011)
For the year 2000 I have digests starting from newtontalk V1 #25 (dated
November 9, 2000). I would be interested in completing this year backwards,
but only if someone can forward me the digests that were sent prior to that
one separately and not as an attachment. Otherwise it would take too much
time.
And now for something completely different...
It has just crossed my mind that the plan to publish the digests as text
files might not be such a good idea after all. Come to think of it, I am
astonished that nobody threatened to kill me. There would be thousands of
E-Mail addresses in these files which would be easy prey for spammers.
Is anybody aware of a freeware that will reliably remove all mail addresses
from text files? If not, it would be a good opportunity to look into my new
book "Teach yerself regular expressions in 10 minutes" :-)
Thanks
Frank
