I use Windows 98 running inside Virtual PC. Older versions will work too, but at least with 98 you can use the shared folders feature to easily import and export data. If you set it up to store the workfile (the file that contains all the data from the Newton) in a shared folder, you can access the data from XP without starting up 98, but you can't synchronize (though it likes to crash a lot under XP, and it's a very buggy program otherwise).
