Blank Envelope could be an Owner setting. Make sure you have (added) an "E-Mail" address option as defined as your gmx.com return address, in addition to the "E-Mail Access" option. 

One last thing…

I had to use mail.gmx.com:587 for the the SMTP. Port 25 appears to be blocked by my ISP.

Otherwise, looks like gmx.com is a viable eMail service for Newtons!
