Depending on what's wrong with it, you might want to consider a "Want To Repair" (?) post to the list to see if anyone in the US might be willing to undertake a repair for you. If not, you're stuck with having to ship it to Frank Gruendel in the EU (and whose workbench might runneth over). You'd have to get in touch with him to see if he'd be willing to undertake the repair and the timeframe involved.
I mention this because the last battery tray I saw for sale seperately (as opposed to being part of a MessagePad that was being offered) on a Certain Internet Auction Site was going for north of US$90. However, I can't say whether this was strictly a temporary aberration (i.e. both the seller -and- the buyer were smoking skinny, badly made cigarettes at the time), or if $90+ can now be said to be the "going rate" for an MP2x00 battery tray.
If it is, it could well be worth the time and money to ship it to someone else and have them try to repair it. Assuming, of course, you don't wish to try to fix it yourself (and that by "broken" you don't actually mean "partially pulverized" or anything exciting like that).
I don't know of anyone who messes with MessagePads in the US on a regular basis. However, you might be able to get someone (knowledgeable) from the list to repair your damaged battery tray strictly as a one-off. It's up to you.
Best,
James Fraser
