We'll never know for sure without access to the original OS source code.

From what we have gathered from emulation, the kernel looks like it probably inherits some from the classic Mac OS toolbox, which isn't very Linux-y.  Much of it is C++.  It might have some BSD code here or there, but it's hard to say from just looking at a disassembly.

The actual core part of the OS is pretty small; just enough to hoist the NewtonScript parts.
