The ones from '94 were probably PVTs or a special run for the WWDC. Remember? These were basically sold at WWDC as retail units, in a retail 110 box, with videos etc. 

There was one guy in the audience that got one that stated that it had either 4MB or 16MB of RAM, the DTS cats quickly made their way over to inspect the chips inside, declared the device busted and offered to replace it. Audience guy insisted on keeping it.

I used mine in the Newton programming course the next week taught by Kent Beck of Extreme Programming fame. Even the Apple employees thought it was cool.
