Well, you could look at the Newton LPR printer driver source code as a
reference (although it implements a network printer, not serial) which
can be found at <http://www.kallisys.com/>. The Newton Printer DDK can
be found on UNNA.org at
<http://www.unna.org/unna/apple/development/DDKs/>, so you should be
able to use that with NTK (also on UNNA.org). There are some
ImageWriter II printer drivers for Mac OS X
which may be useful to reference the serial protocol that it uses.
Still a big project, but it's certainly possible.
