You assumption about the Y10K patch is right. I have not touched the iOS version in years. Originally, Einstein would check the Documents directory, and if .pkg files were found that were newer than the last launch, Einstein would install them a few seconds after booting NewtonOS. But since I do not own an iOS device anymore, I can not say why this wouldn't work anymore.
