Hi Tom,
For us Mac users it is easy.
Just install NCX (https://newtonresearch.org/connection/) and get a serial2usb adapter. When you use one with a FTDI chip, you even don’t have to install a driver.
I bought this one on amazon. It is cheap, but works:
