Yes it’s vinegar. Always with corroded batteries.
Here’s your test: Put either baking soda in its natural dry state on the corrosion, or in a solution with water. Nothing.
Submerge the corroded item in vinegar. PRESTO! Foaming cleaning action.
Don’t forget to rinse well with water afterwards.
