[NTLK] Is there a way to beam from emate to Mac via IR?

I used to do it regularly with a G4 TiBook. I think it was the last laptop with IR. It was very reliable, but not very fast. I also used to do it with a Rev. A iMac.
Pretty sure I was running classic OS on them.

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a way to use the infrared on the eMate to ?beam' a document to a mac? Either classic OS or OS X/macOS?

Thanks!

I thought the beaming feature was only useful in transferring between Newtons; that one of the (few) problems within the Newt?s design was that the format was not compatible with anything else.

I recall reading this somewhere. I don?t, however, recall ever actually trying to beam to a Mac, so I could well be wrong. Perhaps it was that feature did not work with WINDOWS computers.

I used to beam notes from my Pismo, and packages to my Newt all the time from Pismo. In fact, I installed a mirror behind the Pismo so I could do the beaming without turning it around. I don't remember what software I used, though... It may have been third-party. That was looong ago

Yes; I now seem to recall a discussion here on NTLK some time ago?years?about that software.

Perhaps a search through the archives for posts about it would yield a result. I would search for the word ?beam??speaking as someone who has done such searches in the past.

Gathered from the Newton FAQ ...

It?s possible to use a terminal emulator and Steve Weyer?s Sloup to communicate via IrDA:

https://communicrossings.com/html/newton/sloup.htm
https://communicrossings.com/html/newton/sloup/connect.htm#IrDA

Additional information:

Thomas Tempelmann?s Newton Data Browser also works on PPC Macs.

Note that I have not tried these solutions, so your mileage may vary.
