I can say that is possible for a MP120 2.0 to work with a 5/5 card.

I bought a 8 Mb card for my MP120. I have OS 2.0 ROM version 515264.
This card is a 5/5 because it says "for Newton PDA and e-mate 300" on a sticker. The manufacturer is MPEC. I concluded is a 5/5 because if it says it's compatible for e-mate 300 and the only type of card an e-mate300 can accept is a 5/5 so this card is 5/5!

The first time I inserted the card and the Newton didn't recognize it. After a few minutes of restarts and resets, I figured that I haven't closed the security switch under the MP. After that, the Newton could let me erase the card and start to work with it. The card had medical software on it and I erased all without problems.

I suggest to check the security switch inserting another card and watch if the MP can read it.
Have you already tried to work with the card in another Newton?

Well, I hope this experience colud help you.
