NTLK Newton for broadcast quality audio

I don't have a PDA, but would like something which could double as an
audio recorder. I cannot find enough tech info on the MP2000/21000 or
e-mate to evaluate their ability to record audio. It appears the MP2100
could record a native broadcast quality file (16 bit 21khz.) My
questions follow.

Is there software to record in other file formats? (mp3 or mp2)
Does Newton OS use the Macintosh sound-manager? (if so there is an type
II PC slot audio card which could be used as the input)

TIA

Todd
