Hi all!

Following the email yesterday of someone complaining a bit about the
SimCity clone available for Palm, and the reply from somebody else
(Gary?) talking about a package called "RemoteTown", I've downloaded
the package, and found the source code of the project in the archive.
After I quickly looked at all the pieces, recompiling an English-based
version was just a snap.

So, I emailed the author, but still haven't got any reply. I don't
really know where the work I did stands, copyright wise, but I've
thought there might be people interested.

I uploaded 2 archives on my website, the Macintosh one is at:

<http://www.nemesys-software.com/files/remote-town-US.sit.hqx>

and the zip archive for PC is at:

<http://www.nemesys-software.com/files/remote-town-US.zip>

Don't expect anything close to SimCity! The game was clearly developed
for a 120/130, so everything appears really small, tiny on a 2x00
screen. The functionality is very minimal. The whole package takes about
30KB compressed, so... The interface is a little bit cumbersome, to my
taste, but once you get it, it works quite well, given the small map.
Also, for some reason, the game is limited. After 21 years, the game
stops, you get a dialog that welcome you for all your effort, and that
it's over.

Anyway, if you have any question, ask, but not at this email address
(that's my work's one, and I don't think that some people would
appreciate). Send any question to <mailto:nemesys@ix.netcom.com>.

Finally, if I can get hold of the author, and depending on the feedback
I get, I might try first to port it for a 2x00 model, using all the
screen estate, re-working the graphics, and so on. Then, still depending
on feedback, I might add more functionalities, extend the existing ones,
make more graphics, so that it would look more like the original
SimCity.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

Enjoy!

-Laurent
