That is exactly why I went years not knowing what it was. I also thought it
was a newsgroup, so skipped all messages with that in the header, since I
had no interest in reading about an alt newsgroup.

I'll bet there are a lot of people who assume it's something that it isn't
an ignore it.
I believe it is a program that is an alternative to the built in handwriting
recognition, but I don't know anything else about it.
