The short answer is no.

The long answer is maybe, if someone wrote drivers.

The skinny:

Newts use Linear flash only. 2.1 machines are capable of accepting ATA
flash (and compact through an adapter to PC Card), but there are no
drivers for the memory cards.

Linear Flash is damn expensive, since it's being phased out in favor of
the more popular and cheaper (read: volume) types of cards.

If someone actually had the full Lantern devel. kit, maybe there would be
a driver made by the "Community" but that's really stretching this far
into the game. Hopefully some crazy person will eventually make it
possible, but that would require a system update, which is extremely
complicated...

sheesh, it's a long story after all.
