I have a small line going thru the middle of my screen, like the display is
whited out in that area, it just started yesterday, and although everything
is functioning okay, it is kind of annoying...anything that can be done about
it?

Try doing a deep reset. Remove all power for at least an hour and soft reset your Newt. You will rot lose any data and it often cures display or card slot problems.
