NTLK Power-on problem (was 'Sad day')

A little of info. for newbies and others who have not yet heard about this bit of Newton ju-ju (it works on all models):

When the unit refuses to power on, remove the batteries, and anything in the PC card slot(s). Press and hold the power switch to the count of five. Do this six times. Or hold it to the count of six, and do it five times...I never could remember. Leave everything out for a few minutes, just to be safe. Then plug Newt into A/C - don't try to restart with the batteries. It should come back on.

It sounded like hocus-pocus to me until a Newton tech. support person explained that the switch is not really a switch, but sends a power-on or power-off signal to the computer. Holding the switch down like that for an extended period drains the capacitor that trickles a little bit of power to the memory when the batteries are out. Drain the capacitor, and the computer should forget its problem and restart.

Unfortunately, it doesn't always work for everyone, but it will 'solve' (at least temporarily) your power-on problems.
