NTLK (Amusing) Visor vs. Newton

I used to carry a Visor Deluxe around. I was really into the thing,
carrying a bunch of ebooks and applications. After I bought an MP100 and
decided that it was better than the Visor for me, I gave the Visor to my
wife. She soon discovered the joys of AvantGo and having about 10 different
newspapers on it, updated daily. She carries it everywhere, and reads the
news at every red light. She sometimes chides me about the size of my
MP2100, and how useful her Visor is.
Anyway, we have a home network with a dedicated computer that
handles email, usenet, httpd, etc. A few days ago the net card connecting to
the rest of our house died. The outgoing net card was still up, but we
couldn't reach the internet from our home computer. No more AvantGo for
Corey. We couldn't even do anything with our dedicated server since it is a
"headless" machine. In a depressed haze my wife left to go work out without
her daily news fix. When she came back I was sitting there with my Newton,
modem in, dialed up to our ISPs backup phone line. I had telnetted into our
server to make sure it was running OK, downloaded all my email with
Simplemail, and then used NewtsCape to order a new net card from egghead.
She just stood there for a bit with her jaw open. I haven't heard a chiding
word about the "clunkiness" of my MP2100 since.
