Do you stress your Newton in anyway? Like squeezing it in tight places that may twist the hardware?

It is also not a good idea to be heavy handed when writing on the screen. A friend who had screen problems write hard on his screen. When he wanted to sell his unit, I made sure none of my friends buy that unit. The screen's wear and tear is not just surface scratches.

If you are a heavy writer, note that the Newton's screen is pretty sensitive. If you find it hard to write gently, get the Cross Digital Writer. It is gentle on the screen.

I doubt the Barrier is a problem. In fact, it may help by preventing grit from getting to the edges. I never liked Write Rights because peeling it off tend to lift the top layer of the screen. Don't know what harm it can do but I won't take any chances.

HTH.
