The difference to a normal batt cage is a builtin thermo-dependent resistor
(NTC) touching 2 of the 4 cells, kind of "measuring" their temperature.
This is used by the charging circuit to determine the end of the charge cycle.
An english recipe for DIY-building a recharging cage (with many picts
and fotos) is at http://www.logictools.de/newton/akku_mod/akku2k.html,
written by the famous Nick Müller, author of many a life-saving program 8^).
