The free download of 7.5 should be fine, but will really take you
through a time warp. Pick up a copy of OS8 from ebay cheap. I am
assuming you were emailed a 1MB Quadra rom. This will give you the best
compatibility. I use BII at work for web development testing, but it is
running on a Win2K machine. Before that, when I was contemplating
purchasing a Mac I used BII in full screen on my Duron/Win2k machine for
a few month and forgot I had a PC. Compatibility with 68K/FAT software
was excellent.

Getting networking to work on a windows machine running BII is a breeze
however I cannot say the same for BeOS since I have never tried BII on
BeOS. Windows uses a driver that binds with your real NIC's TCP/IP
stack.

Assuming that BII can talk to your serial ports running on top of BeOS,
and you can mount HSF volumes in BeOS, (For windows there is a program
called HFS Explorer to view HFS volumes) I think you should have no
problems getting BII to do what you want.
