Ummm... I think you've got it drastically wrong! I believe 'vacation mode'
is where the list server stops sending to your e-mail address until you tell
it to return to normal status. This is NOT the same as setting up your
local machine (or ISP) to reply to any incoming mail with something like
"So-and-so is not here right now and will return on xx/yy/zz." I seem to
recall that this list is set up in some way to prevent things like bounced
messages from inundating the list.

I don't personally know how to set 'vacation mode' but I bet it's on the
newtontalk.net webpage.
