The dongle is used to connect the end of your serial cable (keyboard,
external modem, printer or appletalk connector) to the newt. It is a small
adapter, a go between if you will, between the newt and the world. Apple
did not provide one with the newt, you had to purchase it for an extra fee.
David H. has produced the SER-001 which installs inside the newt and
provides a minidin serial connection port. Therefore you no longer need the
dongle.
