[NTLK] NCU: ...an error has occurred (-1)

Thanks for the suggestions and for those of you following this
thread, I have succeeded in getting Names out of my uMP2000 with NCU.
Here's how I did it and I have no technical explanation but a few
guesses. I have 1840 names (1806), owner info (2) and worksites
(34). First, every time I tried exporting them with NCU either to a
tab file, Claris Organizer (CO) or Now, I got a message on my Mac
"Could not complete the Export command because an error has occurred
(-1)." I then tried to export Names using Revelar Connection Utility
2.3 and it worked fine. This suggested that it was not a fatal error
in Names. So for my next step I transferred 200 names to the
internal store from my 16Mb Simple Technologies flash card and
removed the flash card. This time, using NCU, I did not get an error
message and all 200 names transferred just fine to a CO file.
Encouraged by this result, I transferred all of my names to the
internal store, removed the flash card and after attepting to
transfer, I got the same (-1) error message as before. Undaunted, I
transferred about 150 names back onto the card, removed the card and
had no trouble writing the remaining 1650 names to a CO file.
Exploring this further, I found that if I left out 4 names (the
"X's"), 1802 transferred perfectly. Those four "X" names were not
the culprits as they themselves, when transferred as a group of four
are fine. My best guess is that there is a "wall" that I hit near
1800 names (607K in the Newton) that was solved by splitting up the
amount of data. Just for the sake of completeness, I don't think
that the limitation was on space allocation on my Mac to the two
programs that get used: NCU is set for 6255K minimum and 25000K
preferred and COrgAE2 is set for 768K minimum and 10000K preferred.
Both preferred sizes were increased 25% from the previous settings
that worked two weeks ago.

Sorry for this longwinded exposition, but I thought that maybe
someone out there will be helped by this info.
