Geeze, and I thought that I had it expensive.

I have ADSL now -- Cost is 5,800 yen per month.

DL around 96K (768k) and UP around 40K (320k). Mine was advertised as UL
@ 1.5M and DL @ 512K. I am getting about half in each case.

Cable was available. The monthly cost was cheaper, plus you get CableTV.
But the infrastructure is not here yet. It slows way down at times.

Another big negative for me concerning cable, was that the installation
cost was prohibative since the building that I live in does not have
cable, they would have to install cable in the building, as well as my
apartment. Many Japanese places are like this. They tend to rely on
Satelite TV since it's cheap and easy to install.

In my case, ADSL was much cheaper and easier to install.

Yahoo Japan is advertising a much higher ADSL service for a little bit
less than what I am paying. Yahoo's is advertised as UL @ 8.0M and DL @
1M. We shall see. They've already postponed implementation twice!
