I assume, then, that you've not been on the list very long? A piece of
software only gets discussed as abandonware on this list under two
circumstances. One, the developer (or assignee) simply cannot be found.
Not by net, not by dialing information, not by going to the library and
looking in Barron's or other business guides. Absolutely cannot be found
(OK, I don't think anyone's hired a private detective yet...). Two, the
developer/author/whatever *is* eventually contacted but says they're no
longer supporting the software, no longer selling it, etc. and further that
they simply ignore all requests for permission to do anything at all with
the software.
So, if you'd been reading the many discussions on this topic over the last
few months (or longer) you'd know that nobody is "taking the easy way out",
but rather, we're trying to find a legitimate way of doing something other
than say "too bad, so sad."
