Well, yes and no, since newsgroups are generally topical and, if anything,
getting flamed for being off-topic is (in my experience) more commonplace
there. Besides, a good mailing list is, I feel, more of a community. I
have the feeling that many people need multiple outlets of expression after
such an unprecedented event.
