[NTLK] Battery pack thermo switch

Some time ago we had a discussion about the nature of the component
I describe as a thermo switch in the refurbishing instructions on my site.
Recently I got some packs that were scheduled for refurbishing and I
did a little experiment. The cells were near-dead anyway, so there was
no danger.

I pumped a current of 3 Amps into the pack and measured both the
current and the temperature. Of course the pack wasn't in the Newton,
the temperature was measured directly below the thermo switch.
3 Amps is, by the way, not even three
times more than what your original adapter can provide.
It took the pack about 2 minutes to reach 55 degrees celsius. After
that the switch switches. Kind of. It doesn't cut the connection completely,
but limits the current to about 100 mA which is little enough to allow the
pack to cool off again.
I tested 2 packs that way, both behaved identical.
Considering that 3 Amps isn't *that* much, further considering the little
time it takes until that "last defense" part becomes active, you might
want to reconsider if you planned to build your own battery pack
(for example using the battery tray) without that component.
