Welcome! Glad to have you here. I'm sure you'll find many on this list

My take on this is that it's probably best to categorize these rumors as a
form of entertainment (at least on this list). Now, entertainment itself is
a rich area for sociological study and might be an interesting tack for you
to take.

It's good to know that you've taken a much more balanced approach (which is
really what I suspected all along) that's simply been spun a particular way
by journalist that has at least a partial motivation to be generating
webhits on that article.
