I guess this is a matter of defining the "function" which the form is
supposed to follow. When I work with my iBook, I can focus 100% on the
screen, there is no flashy or otherwise distracting thing in my area of
view, regarding the case. It is absolutely reduced. So upon working with it
(function), the computer itself (form) stands back, withdraws from view.

This counts for all current Macs, as far as I can see.
There are not flashy anymore.
The Smurf-G3s were, the original iMac was, same for the original iBook, and
even the G3 Powerbooks. All these had some organic component in their
case-design.

Current models look great if you take the time to admire them, but they are
just sleek and decent, clean, clearly machines.

Looking at the new iMac, I see an tendency towards the total disappearance
of the computer as a "computer", it becomes a piece of furniture that
integrates within any surrounding without standing out as intruding
technology.

That thing was for the bucket, I agree.
