The pin is not to "force initialization" or anything. The pin is just
shorts two connections together which turns the Newt on, in the same way
that flicking the power switch does. (It's all documented in the
Interconnect port specs, if anyone cares).

And no, this feature is not part of a miniDIN-8 or -9 plug - they only
carry the serial port signals.
