You can
a) Use the original rechargeable pack (built with NiCad cells)
b) Use the alkaline battery holder and put NiCad cells in
c) Convince me to convert a brand new battery holder to a rechargeable
pack
If you use option b, the Newton won't charge the battery, and the
battery
low warning would be somewhat off because the Newton thinks it is
running
off alkalines, resulting in the Newton's shutting off too late when the
battery gets low.
If you use option c, you'd have all benefits of a rechargeable pack, but
with new cells of significantly higher capacity that you can easily
replace yourself once they get bad.

It is!

Oops... you are probably the only one out there...

As for clarity and contrast the OMP / MP100 screens are by far and wide
the best of the whole Newton family.
