Hmmmmm, well, I don't have a LocalTalk cable in front of me, but I thought I
did remember they had only 3 pins, but maybe I'm wrong... Yes, I think I'm
wrong. I now remember that you can use a serial cable to plug 2 devices with
LocalTalk ports directly together, without the need of the little box. And I
think I remember where that 3 pins layout come from: the cables that plug 2
LocalTalk connector boxes have only 3 pins with a blocky piece in the
middle, but the actual connector going from the box to the computer or the
device has all the regular DIN-8 pins. I've never seen a Belkin QuikNet
LocalTalk adapter, though, so I can't comment on those. The ones I'm talking
about are the ones from Apple.

I would imagine that you could try those connectors without risking of
breaking or toasting anything, but if they don't work, you will have to find
yourself a real serial cable...
