If I were you, I wouldn't buy a new one. "New" in this
context means "built 1997 or earlier and never used since".
Battery cells don't exactly get better if they live unused
in a drawer for three quarters of a decade.
If you have a rechargeable pack that's dead, you can easily
rebuild it, see http://www.pda-soft.de/mp2k_battery_pack.html
Someone recently mentioned here that he would be willing to do
this for a very good price if you think you can't do it.
I could do it for you, too, or I could send you a rebuilt one
without a trade-in.
