would a USB to PC serial adapter, then a PC to Newton, then serial to interconnect dongle work? seems to be the cheapest option I have... or, how do I build my own cable? (remember, cheap college student here...)

how hard are they to get to work? What does the software cost? I'm also confused on where to get it...

Sorry for all the stupid questions... After playing with this thing a little, I'm finding it immensely useful. Also, in everybody's opinion, what the best cost-effective way to protect the screen on my newton? I know about NuShield, but I don't wanna spend that much. I have one on my Sharp Zaurus (clumsy excuse for a PDA, but a nice little Linux box that fits in your pocket), and it works quite nicely, but, then again, they ARE quite expensive...
