I would say that the best place to start, Perry, is the Newton FAQ at
http://www.chuma.org/newton/faq/

I used an MP2000u (upgraded) with my G4 iBook (personal unit) and my G4
PowerBook (work unit). With an ethernet card, it is easy to move items back
and forth. Last year, for Father's Day, my boys got me a WIFI card and
Hiroshi's WIFI driver, so now I connect via my AirPort network, which is
extremely quick.

You can find most of the free and demo software available for the Newton at
UNNA -the United Network of Newton Archives - www.unna.org. Folks can tell
you what applications are the most important ... In terms of connectivity, I
use Newtourage to link names and schedule between the Newton and Entourage
on the Mac.

Good luck, Perry! Welcome to the group!!
