Desoldering of the memory chips could be done with a hot air gun. At my past
work in PSI/SLS I sucessfully desoldered SMT mount chips w/ up to 24 pins at
each side. The chip withstands the hot air easily and you should set it to
the hottest position and wait until it reached this temperature. And then
apply the hot air only for not much more than 5 seconds, providing
possibility for the chip to fall down :-)
