[NTLK] Believe it or not...

... but I am sitting here in front of my computer and can't believe
how lucky I am. Lucky to be a part of this community. Lucky because
this community consists of the people it consists of.

You might remember that I posted heaps of boring debug text yesterday
with the sole purpose of getting an idea about why SimpleMail 4.3
has suddenly ceased working.

Apart from some tips from other list
members, I received a reply from Simon less than 24 hours after my
post. It said that obviously my mail provider must have changed the way
it handles pop3 accounts. Changed in a way that makes their software
behave somewhat outside of the pop3 specification.

An hour and 10 minutes later Simon's
second mail made it to my mailbox, this time with my own personal
version
of SimpleMail attached that can handle this specification breach. I
installed it and, hooray, everything works again.

Wow. I mean, WOW!!! I'm wondering how things would have been if I had,
three days before my vacation, found out that MicroSoft Outlook wasn't
able to handle a breach of pop3 specification. Actually, I'm not
wondering.
I would of course have been without mail during this trip.

This is a public thank you to Simon Bell. The time it took him to create
a custom version of SimpleMail is way less than the time it takes most
companies to send you an automated reply that answers none of your
questions.

Apart from the public thanks I would like to announce publicly that as
of now
Simon is entitled to a free Newton fix. Simon, if ever you happen to
have a
dead Newton other than the Newton 110 (which I can't fix since I have
no spare parts) or eMate, just send it my way.

A wholehearted thanks

Frank

PS My next mail will be a mail to my email provider that will point out
the fact
that since their last software change the best PDA ever had been unable
to receive mail
for nearly 24 hours until a way had been found to handle their
mistake...
