Eric:
People of colour exposed to discrimination are only as "hypersensitive"
as you would be if I were to push against your naked flesh with a very
sharp stick. Would you flinch? Yes. Would that make you
"hypersensitive"? No. It is a normal, appropriate response.
Yes, my guessing at Jared's "race" was an educated guess, based on 32
years of experience observing and living amongst a majority white
population in England, where I live. A reasonable guess, and valid, in
the circumstances. I understand that "race", as a biological-scientific
entity is a nonsense which does not exist. You may have more in common
with a black-skinned Nuba warrior than I do, genetically. Socially,
sadly, it is given great weight.
And Eric, I wouldn't know about the wisdom of a saying like that ;-)
Would you?
Ikem.
